High
Stakes Poker is a television show broadcast on the United States television
network known as GSN. The version of poker featured on this show is no limit
Texas Hold’em. The show just finished its fifth season, which began on March 1,
2009. The show has been filmed at a couple of different casinos in Las Vegas
since its inception. High stakes poker doesn’t just have to consist of playing
no limit Texas Hold’em. Why? Any game of poker that involves a large pot of
money is considered to be high stakes. High stakes cash games are full of
pressure for the people playing the game because there is so much money
involved in the game and the tension in the room is usually incredibly high.
When
playing a high stakes poker game the player should use psychology as much as
possible while also thinking on a variety of levels during these cash games. If
players can use psychology and think on multiple levels when playing the game
then they will more than likely be successful at winning the game and acquiring
the pot. If a player enters a high stakes poker game with little poker playing
experience then he or she will surely be taken advantage of by the others
involved in the game. Poker players with a lot of experience should take part
in high stakes poker games instead of inexperienced players.
The
image of the high stakes game and the flow of the game are two very important
parts of how successful a player can be at the game. If the player does not
study the image and flow of the game then he or she will have trouble winning
the pot. Noticing the image and flow of the game helps immensely when it comes
to out-thinking your opponent. Before making a bet, folding, or calling an
opponent’s hand the player should take note of their opponent’s body language,
how they play the game, and what level of thinking the opponent is playing. Once
the player figures out his or her opponent’s level of thinking, he or she
should react accordingly to the actions the opponent is making.
For
any poker player to be successful at a high stakes game they must begin to
think about what their opponent thinks they have in their hand. For instance,
‘Joe’ is playing a high stakes poker game against ‘John’ and ‘Marie.’ Joe must
think about what John is thinking Joe has in his hand. The same should be said
for John and Marie. Anyone playing high stakes poker has to think this way if
they wish to be successful. Don’t get in each other’s way though. Staying out
of the way of other players will make it easier for the game to continue. Don’t
step on other player’s toes when trying to show everyone your superiority
during the high stakes poker game. If poker players follow these tips when
playing a high stakes game of poker they should be successful in winning the
pot.
